It is against Georgia law to abandon ("dump") a domestic animal - Georgia Animal Protection Act. Feral cats and the socialized cats in homes are the same species and are considered the same under law.

Hospital Feline Friends has an obligation to the hospital to control the feral cat population, and not allow non-feral cats to live there. We are not a rescue group, and currently do not have any members on our team that foster cats. If you would like to sign up to foster and/or help find homes for any non-feral cats found on hospital property, please contact us. Non-feral cats will not be allowed to stay at the hospital.

If you give the cats a snack, you must pick up any uneaten food/treats when you leave the area. Food can not be left anywhere except the designated feeding stations.

About Us:

"Hospital Feline Friends" is a group of volunteers who care for the feral cat colony at the hospital in Gainesville, Georgia.

Our goals are to maintain and control a healthy feral cat colony, allow fellow cat lovers a way to "give back" by participating in the care of the colony, and stress the importance of having all your pets spayed and neutered.

Hospital Feline Friends has no shelter facility, no office, and no employees. All members are volunteers who work other full time jobs. We are always in need of people who can help feed. If you would like to help with the cats in any way, please contact us.

How our program works:

To care for the cats, we follow the guidelines of Alley Cat Allies, one of the country's leading feral cat advocacy groups. They provide a wealth of information on how to have a successful TNR program.

What is a TNR program:

The best way to control feral cats is through a humane program known as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). This means the cats are trapped, taken to the vet to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, returned to where they were trapped, then released. After release, the cats are fed daily at established feeding stations.

Our accomplishments:

The hospital approved our program in early 2011. Since that time, we have captured 96 cats from hospital property, and found homes for 57. Please see our stat sheet here:
